The history of Winton Bowling, Tennis & Social Club

8th February 1892

SIMON GATLEY died and left his estate to his wife Elizabeth had his son Josia

14th November 1912

Ellesmere settlements trust between Josia and Elizabeth Gatley & the 3rd Earl of Ellesmere the Right Honourable John Francis Granvil Scope Edgerton, The Honourable Thomas Henry Frederick Egerton & Claude Francis Arthur Egerton granting the right to mine minerals and agreement to compensate in the event of damage to the surface.

24th August 1922

Elizabeth Gatley died a Widow

29th July 1939

Josia Gatley died and left the estate to his two sons, Reginald Simon and John Hilton Gatley

1st October  1949

Winton Bowling Social & Tennis Club was granted a lease dated 8th July 1950 of the land now containing the clubhouse, bowling green’s & tennis courts a total of 15,600 sq yards for ten years for an annual rent of £7.10s.0d

7th October 1954

Reginald Simon Gatley died at Tarleton Nr Preston

4th January 1956

John Hilton Gatley granted a new lease to W.B.T.S.C club for 25 years for a rent of £50.00 per annum please schedule A Income tax

11th October 1960

The entire estate of Josia Gatley was granted to John Hilton Gatley

18th December 1960

John Hilton Gatley died INTESTATE

8th April 1962

Compulsory purchase by Lancashire County Council of 5711 sq. Yards of the land we were leasing, the club received the sum of £50.00, the land was used for Motorway construction

13th September1965

Purchase of freehold of 9889 sq. Yards for £1500, the remainder of the land the club was previously leasing.  The conveyance included the right of way over the land containing Building belonging to the Gatley estate.

1st February 1967

Letters of administration granted to Edna Gatley the widow of John Hilton Gatley

4th April 1967

Conveyance of the freehold of the remainder of the Gatley estate containing the house Rose cottage and outbuildings to W.B.T.S.C for £2,500

8th July 1968

Hydes Brewery provided a loan of £4000 to pay for the land with Legal Charges on the land as security
